I’d honestly never really thought about stargazing before… and it certainly wasn’t on my bucket list.

But when I was invited to head up Mount Teide in Tenerife with friends for dinner and late-night stargazing, there was no way I was missing the opportunity.

The drive up the volcano is slow but absolutely incredible, with the scenery constantly changing as you climb higher and higher, as we reached the point where you are actually above the clouds is a surreal moment and makes you realise just how high you’ve travelled.

Once we reached the Mount Teide area, the atmosphere completely changed — total peace and silence. No birds, no noise, just the cool mountain air and dramatic volcanic landscapes surrounding us.

Tenerife is recognised as one of the world’s premier stargazing destinations thanks to its high altitude, crystal-clear skies, and strict laws controlling light pollution and flight paths. It’s officially recognised as a “Starlight Destination” — and now I completely understand why.

After sunset, our guides set up huge telescopes and suddenly the night sky came alive. Seeing the Moon’s craters up close was amazing, but observing Saturn’s rings, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, and famous stars including Sirius, Betelgeuse, and the Pleiades cluster was simply magical.

Standing there under thousands upon thousands of stars is something I’ll never forget.

This is the side of Tenerife many people never discover — far beyond beaches, bars, and all-inclusive resorts.

Tenerife offers adventure, nature, and experiences that genuinely stay with you forever, and our evening stargazing reminded me that travel is about moments, not just destinations.

Although I won’t lie… getting back to the hotel at 1.30am was a struggle I just wish we could stargaze in the daytime lol 😆
