We all know most people have been here, and Yes, Tenerife has plenty of hotels.

In fact, there are 14 different resorts and more than 180 hotels we could book for our clients, but after staying at the Iberostar Selection Sábila in Costa Adeje, I can honestly say this has become one of my personal favourites.

Why?

Because for me, a real holiday experience isn’t just about finding the biggest resort or the busiest pool, it’s about arriving somewhere and immediately feeling relaxed, thats exactly how I felt at the Iberostar Selection Sábila.

This 5-star, adults-only hotel combines a peaceful atmosphere with excellent facilities, fantastic food, comfortable accommodation and, most importantly, a team of staff who genuinely seem to care about making your stay special, even on arrival your given a glass bubbly and warm towel to freshen up your sweaty face after travel 😊

From the moment we arrived, there was a sense of calm, and you’ll love the fresh scent across the hotel, known to me as ‘that Iberostar smell’ It feels very modern and luxury, but not being stuffy and peaceful without feeling isolated, trust me, you have everything you need nearby, but once you return to the hotel, the pace slows down.

And for me, that’s exactly what a great holiday should do, The Iberostar Difference – It’s the People

I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels over the years, and one thing I’ve learned is that a beautiful hotel doesn’t automatically make a great holiday, its the people who do.

One of Iberostar’s biggest assets is its staff.

There is a genuine passion to please. From the welcome to the restaurant team, bar staff and housekeeping, there is a feeling that they aren’t simply doing a job — they actually want you to enjoy your holiday.

That makes a huge difference.

It’s one of the reasons I’ve always had such a positive impression of the Iberostar brand.

The hotels are so impressive, but the service and attention to detail are what turn a good hotel stay into a memorable experience.

Our Room – Modern, Spacious and Comfortable

Our room was exactly what I look for from a quality 5-star hotel, it was modern, comfortable and a really good size, with plenty of storage and wardrobe space.

Sometimes modern hotel rooms look fantastic but don’t give you anywhere to put your clothes, but there wasn’t a problem here.

And then there was the bed.

Oh What a bed!

We had a huge, comfortable king-size bed with lovely cool cotton bedding, a soft duvet and pillows that practically invited you to sleep.

Sleep is normally one of my problems when travelling, but I had no complaints here!

The hotel also has a lovely bird theme running throughout the property, which gave it some character, being a Robinson, I just loved seeing a giant robin looking over us in our room, tt felt like it had been put there especially for me.

Our Side Sea View

We stayed in a side-view room, as that’s what our budget could buy us especially at New Year, rather than having a full frontal sea view.

But honestly, it wasn’t a problem.

The balcony was a really good size and gave us somewhere lovely to sit and enjoy the surroundings, and my evenings glass of vines and nibbles.

If you want a full sea view, I’d certainly recommend looking at the upgrade options when booking, but for us the side sea view worked perfectly, all the rooms include tea and coffee-making facilities, which kept both of us happy, us Brits do love our morning brews.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a hotel room feel like home.

The Bathroom – Plenty of Space

The bathroom was another highlight, it was modern, spacious and particularly generous around the shower, with plenty of room to move around.

And then came one of those little touches that makes a 5-star stay feel that little bit more luxurious.

Thick, fluffy robes and slippers.

There is something about putting on a hotel robe after a shower that immediately makes you feel like you’re on holiday!

Everything felt clean, modern and well presented.

Food – You Definitely Won’t Go Hungry!

Now, food is important to me.

I trained as a chef and have worked in hospitality, so perhaps I’m slightly more critical than some holidaymakers when it comes to hotel food.

But the Sábila certainly didn’t disappoint.

The food was hot, fresh, plentiful and varied, with plenty of choice throughout our stay.

Breakfast was particularly impressive.

There were fresh juices squeezed to order, a great selection of yoghurts, fruit and grains, plus one of my favourite touches — fresh honey served from the honeycomb.

Add the selection of nuts, cereals, fruit and other breakfast favourites and you’ve got a great way to start the day.

And if you have food allergies or dietary requirements, don’t be afraid to tell the hotel.

The team were excellent and very accommodating. Communication is important, but the willingness of the staff to help made us feel confident and looked after.

The Pool – Holiday Mode Activated

Then there is the outdoor pool, I just love, easy access, walk in, jump or step in the pool, great size for swimming as well, remember kid free..

It’s a fantastic pool with plenty of space to actually swim rather than simply stand around in the water.

If you want to stay active, there are activities available too. You can even try pool yoga on a surfboard.

Yes, yoga on a surfboard!

Not necessarily something I mastered, but it certainly looked like fun.

For those of us who prefer to relax, there are plenty of opportunities to simply lie back, soak up the Tenerife sunshine and enjoy the atmosphere.

One afternoon we listened to a jazz musician playing live around the pool.

Now that’s my kind of holiday afternoon.

Sunshine, music, a drink and nowhere you need to be.

And Then Came the Drinks Trolley!

One of my favourite little touches was the drinks trolley coming around the pool, it’s simple, but it adds another level of service.

Rather than getting up, walking to the bar and returning to your sunbed, someone comes around offering you unexpected drinks, but they fo have staff running around with their trays taking your drink orders throughout the day as well.

It’s those little touches that make you feel looked after when you’re on holiday, that’s exactly what you want.

Location – Peaceful but Perfectly Placed

The location is another big reason why I enjoyed the Sábila, the hotel itself is peaceful, but you’re certainly not isolated.

There is even a gate from the hotel providing access towards the beach and coastal path, making it easy to head towards Playa de Fañabé.

Along the promenade you’ll find plenty of bars, restaurants and places to stop for a drink or something to eat.

It’s a lovely area for an evening stroll, particularly when the Tenerife sunshine starts to soften.

What I also liked was that despite being in such a popular part of Tenerife, the hotel itself never felt overly hectic.

You could enjoy the resort atmosphere outside and then return to the peace and quiet of the Sábila.

For me, that’s the perfect combination.

My Guilty Pleasure – The News Café Bar, yes happy hour, of course, I couldn’t stay in Costa Adeje without investigating the local watering holes, especially at happy hours, especially, whilst my lovely Joanne was supposedly taking 10 minutes to get ready — which somehow became closer to 40 minutes — I discovered the News Café Bar opposite the hotel.

So naturally, I had to carry out some very important research.

A few cheeky beers later, I had established that it was a rather good place to sit, relax and watch the world go by!

It’s funny how some of the best holiday memories are the completely unplanned ones.

What About Star Prestige?

The Iberostar Selection Sábila also offers the Star Prestige experience, unfortunately, during our stay I didn’t get the opportunity to properly experience or explore this additional level of service, so I won’t pretend otherwise.

If you’re considering Star Prestige, I’d recommend checking exactly what is included for your dates and room type when booking.

Perhaps Iberostar might invite me back one day to investigate it properly, especially after all clients I send  their way over the years…

Who Is This Hotel Best For?

For me, the Iberostar Selection Sábila is ideal for couples and adults looking for a quality Tenerife escape.

It’s particularly suitable if you’re looking for:

It really does give you the best of both worlds.

You can enjoy the restaurants, bars, beaches and activities of Costa Adeje, then return to a peaceful hotel where you can properly switch off.

The Honest Bit – Is It Expensive?

Let’s be honest.

The Iberostar Selection Sábila isn’t usually going to be the cheapest hotel in your Tenerife search, for many people, it will sit towards the top end of their holiday budget.

But this is where I always say:

Don’t be led on price. Be led by knowledge and service.

You’re paying for an adults-only 5-star hotel, a peaceful location, quality accommodation, excellent food, impressive facilities and a high standard of service.

Of course, you can find cheaper hotels.

But finding a hotel that ticks so many boxes is much harder.

For the right traveller, I think the Sábila is absolutely worth considering.

So, after experiencing the Iberostar Selection Sábila for myself, what’s my rating?

Would I Go Back?

Yes, Tenerife has hundreds of hotels and something for virtually every type of traveller, but if you asked me to choose one of my personal favourites, the Iberostar Selection Sábila in Costa Adeje would be very high on my list.

It’s not simply because it’s adults-only.
